When your life takes on a darker shade of gray in the face of adversity and disappointment, when your questions remain without answers and the way through the labyrinth of life seems unclear, who do you turn to?
Your friends are too busy with their lives and their own problems, your prayers seem unanswered and the light at the end of the tunnel is too dim for you to see. You find yourself looking back in the past in search of better times and maybe a moment in time where the answers you seek today may be hidden. A similar situation with a good outcome, a hand reaching out to you or maybe just a smile on the face of a stranger.
For the past seven years, I have preached that the answer to many of our questions can be found in the word of God, often in the simplicity of a single word; Love. Love fuels our lives in so many ways but often loses its meaning as we use the word without feeling its true meaning. When felt to the very core of one’s being, love can overshadow pain and disappointment, it is the light at the end of the tunnel. Its light overpowers the gray of adversity, the darkness of suffering and brings back meaning to life. So it is that when I feel the dark shadow of adversity fall upon me, I pray for love to fill my heart; not for simple answers to my problems or a quick fix to my disappointments. For through love, the answers will come in due time, because if we all care deeply enough, pain and suffering will fade into darkness.
So, who do you turn to when life takes on a darker shade of gray? You turn to God, because this is where love shines.
